Density SMP is different from creating the appearance of a fully shaved scalp. The artist is placing impressions between existing follicles, so pigment selection must work with the hair that is already present.
Match the Visual Environment
The pigment should support the appearance of density without creating obvious dark dots between lighter natural follicles.
Avoid Chasing Hair-Shaft Color
The full hair shaft can appear much darker than the follicle at scalp level. Use the scalp and shaved follicle appearance as a better reference for working intensity.
Use Controlled Dilution
Density treatments often benefit from a working mix that can be built gradually. Overly dark impressions can create contrast rather than the visual illusion of fullness.

Technique Still Matters
Pigment selection cannot compensate for poor spacing, excessive depth, or inconsistent impression size. Pair the right shade with controlled technique and an appropriate SMP cartridge.
